Embrace the Spooky Season: Fun Halloween Traditions & Kid-Friendly Baking

It’s no secret that Halloween holds a special place in my heart! It’s such a vibrant and joyful holiday, filled with enchantment and delightful frights. I treasure fond memories of trick-or-treating as a child (and yes, even as a teenager!), and the cozy family traditions of carving pumpkins and engaging in all sorts of Halloween-themed crafts. I distinctly remember making little ghost figures for our tree using old rags stuffed with tissue and newspaper – simple joys that felt magical at the time.

Now, as a mom, I truly appreciate the incredible time and effort my parents poured into creating these experiences for us. Every activity, every handmade decoration, and every shared moment took dedication, but it was all so worthwhile. These fleeting years with my own children are flying by, and I’m committed to creating equally magical memories for them, especially in the kitchen!

One of my absolute favorite activities to share with my little munchkins is whipping up cute and festive Halloween treats. This year, we’ve focused on a collection of recipes so straightforward, they only require three ingredients! The best part? Everything you see on this platter can easily be made with the kids, fostering creativity and hands-on fun. While you might want to handle the more intricate details yourself – like carefully placing the “legs” on the spider cookies – there’s a step for every child to help with in each treat, making it a truly collaborative effort and a fantastic way to bond over the holiday spirit.

To showcase our delicious Halloween creations, I used this stunning platter from Williams Sonoma Canada. Its generous size and lightweight design make it perfect for displaying a variety of goodies, and it cleans up effortlessly, which is always a bonus when dealing with sticky fingers and sweet messes!

You’ll be delighted to discover that each recipe takes only a few minutes to prepare, and true to our promise, they all require just three ingredients (or even fewer!). Get ready to experience the joy of stress-free Halloween treat making!

Happy Halloweening!

Peanut Butter Spider Cookies: A Sweet & Spooky Delight

These adorable peanut butter spider cookies are hands down my favorite among this festive collection, primarily because I’m an enormous fan of Reese’s peanut butter cups! You and your family are going to absolutely adore these. They’re a fantastic way to combine the classic taste of peanut butter and chocolate with a fun, creepy-crawly Halloween theme that kids will go wild for. Little ones can help unwrap the mini Reese’s, press them onto the cookies, and even assist in placing the candy eyeballs, making it a truly engaging activity!

Description

These cute little spider cookies are made of a peanut butter oatmeal cookie, topped with a mini Reese’s peanut butter cup and drizzled with a bit of chocolate for the legs!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 peanut butter cookies (store-bought or homemade)
  • 12 mini Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate, melted
  • optional: 24 mini candy eyeballs

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and melty. Transfer the chocolate to a piping bag or Ziploc bag with a tiny bit of the end snipped off.
  2. Place a tiny bit of melted chocolate in the middle of a peanut butter cookie then press a mini peanut butter cup on top. Using the piping bag, create 8 “legs” with the chocolate, 4 on each side. Repeat with remaining cookies.
  3. Use a bit of the melted chocolate on the front of the Reese’s peanut butter cup and place 2 mini candy eye balls on top, pressing them on.

Cookies will keep at room temperature, for 5-6 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.https://www.chelseasmessyapron.com/3-ingredient-halloween-treats/

Description

You might want to call YOUR mommy after making this cookies and cream mummy bark! Made with only 3 ingredients and only 5 minutes of time, you’ll love it!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups white chocolate
  • 8 Oreo cookies
  • 1/4 cup mini candy eyeballs

Instructions

  1. Chop up the Oreo cookies and set aside. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. In a microwave safe bowl (or use a double boiler) melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second increments at 70% power, stirring in between until the chocolate is smooth and creamy.  Place 1/4 cup of the chocolate into a Ziploc bag or piping bag, then stir in the chopped up cookies to the remainder.
  2. Pour the chocolate out on to the foil, using the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate out – thin and even. Place the chocolate in the fridge to harden for about 5 minutes. Remove chocolate, then drizzle the remaining white chocolate all over the bark, creating “mummy” lines. Place sets of eyeballs together all over the drizzled chocolate, pressing them in. Place the chocolate back into the fridge for 10 minutes, before removing and breaking into pieces, keeping the eyeball sets together.

Chocolate bark should be stored in the fridge, for 4-5 days.

Easy Orange Pumpkins: A Healthy & Whimsical Halloween Treat

For a refreshingly healthy and incredibly simple Halloween treat, these delightful orange pumpkins are an absolute must-try! They’re so straightforward they barely require a recipe card. All you need are sweet, juicy mandarin oranges and something green to serve as the “stem.” I’ve used the tip of a matcha-flavored Pocky stick, but feel free to get creative! A green Tic-Tac, a green Mike & Ike candy, or even a small piece of green licorice would work perfectly. The process couldn’t be easier: simply peel a mandarin orange, gently insert your chosen “stem” into the top, and voilà! You have an instant, edible pumpkin that’s both nutritious and festive.

These charming little fruit pumpkins are fine to leave at room temperature for about 5-6 hours, making them ideal for school lunches or an afternoon snack. However, beyond that, they’ll start to dry out without their protective peel, so enjoy them fresh!

Rice Krispie Monsters: Creativity in Every Bite

Out of all the easy Halloween treats you can make with kids, this one is undeniably the most fun and allows for endless creativity! My children absolutely adored making and devouring these colorful Rice Krispie monsters. If you have a favorite homemade Rice Krispie square recipe, feel free to use it, or for an even quicker preparation, opt for store-bought Rice Krispies treats. This flexibility makes them perfect for busy families!

The beauty of these monsters lies in the customization. You can use any color of candy melt you desire – bright greens, purples, oranges, or even classic black – along with an assortment of sprinkles to give each monster its unique personality. Kids can choose their favorite colors, dip the squares, and then get creative with placing candy eyeballs and sprinkles. These also make a fantastic and visually appealing treat to pack into school lunchboxes, adding a touch of Halloween magic to their day.

These super cute little monsters are not only easy to make, they’re delicious! You only need 2 ingredients for these adorable Halloween treats!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz candy melts (in any color)
  • 8 Rice Krispie squares (homemade or storebought)
  • 1/4 cup assorted candy eyeballs
  • optional: sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the candy melts in the microwave in 30-second increments, at 70% power, stirring each time until smooth. Stir until smooth.
  2. Holding the end of a Rice Krispie square, dip it into the melted chocolate until it’s covered 3/4 with chocolate. Hold it up to let the excess chocolate drip off. Place the square on the baking sheet. Immediately press in various candy eyeballs, and add the sprinkles, if using. Repeat with remaining squares. Place the squares in the fridge for 10 minutes until the chocolate is hardened.

Squares remain fine at room temperature for 4-5 days, in an airtight container.
