Welcome Back to Delicious & Easy Recipes!
After a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of holiday blogging, I’m thrilled to be back in the kitchen and sharing a brand-new recipe with you. While I adore creating and sharing culinary delights, stepping away for a little while truly rejuvenates the spirit. It’s easy to feel the constant pressure of social media engagement, story sharing, and comment replies, making blogging feel like a 24/7 commitment. But a short pause works wonders, and I’m returning refreshed, re-inspired, and ready to dive into some exciting new dishes! You can even find me back on Instagram, sharing daily inspirations.
Today, I’m launching back into action with not one, but three fantastic features in a single recipe! We’re making a simple 2-ingredient dish, an incredibly popular air fryer creation, and a wholesome, satisfying snack. With Christmas behind us, many of you might have received a brand-new air fryer, and you’re probably eager to put it to good use. While I’ve shared a few air fryer recipes before, I anticipate a surge of interest in easy air fryer meals and snacks this season!
These homemade air fryer apple chips are the absolute perfect way to inaugurate your new kitchen appliance. They are delightfully simple, quick to prepare, and result in a wonderfully crispy, naturally sweet treat. Forget about store-bought versions that often contain added sugars and preservatives; these are pure, unadulterated goodness, making them an ideal delicious and nutritious snack for the whole family.

Can You Put Fruit in an Air Fryer? Absolutely!
When you think of air fryers, crispy fries, chicken wings, or perfectly roasted vegetables might be the first things that come to mind. However, the versatility of this appliance extends far beyond savory dishes! Air frying fruit is a fantastic, often overlooked, method for creating unique and delicious snacks and desserts. The circulating hot air works magic, transforming ordinary fruit into something truly special.
The key difference in outcome lies in how you prepare your fruit. If you slice fruits thinly, as we do for these cinnamon apple chips, you’ll achieve an irresistible, crunchy snack reminiscent of potato chips, but far healthier. The air fryer dehydrates the fruit slightly while imparting a lovely crispness. On the other hand, if you opt for thicker slices or larger pieces of fruit, the air fryer will cook them through, leaving them tender and juicy on the inside with a delightful hint of crispiness on the exterior. Imagine warm, soft pineapples, tender pears with caramelized edges, or succulent air-fried strawberries – the possibilities are endless and utterly delicious. Experiment with different fruits like bananas, peaches, or even berries to discover your new favorite air-fried treat!
Mastering Air Fryer Apple Chips: A Step-by-Step Guide
Creating perfect air fryer apple chips is surprisingly straightforward, requiring minimal effort for maximum flavor and crunch. Here’s how to do it:
1. Perfect Slicing for Optimal Crispness
The foundation of a great apple chip is a perfectly thin and even slice. Since overcrowding your air fryer basket can lead to uneven cooking and less crisp results, it’s best to start with just one or two apples at a time, depending on their size and your air fryer’s capacity.
For achieving consistently thin slices, I highly recommend using a mandoline slicer. It’s an invaluable tool for precision and speed, ensuring every apple slice is uniform in thickness, which is crucial for even cooking and a uniformly crispy texture. This is the mandoline I personally use and trust for consistent results.
If you don’t own a mandoline or a food processor with a slicing attachment, don’t worry! A sharp paring knife can certainly do the trick. The key is to be very careful and aim for slices approximately 1/8-inch thick. While it may take a little more time and precision, the effort is well worth it for those perfect chips. You don’t necessarily need to core the apples beforehand; you can easily remove any seeds after slicing, or simply eat around them. The core itself is edible if sliced thinly.

2. The Perfect Temperature: Preheat for Success
Once your apples are perfectly sliced, it’s time to preheat your air fryer. Set the temperature to 325°F (160°C). Through extensive testing, I discovered that 325°F is truly the “magical” temperature for apple chips. Any temperature higher than this tends to burn the delicate apple slices far too quickly, often resulting in charred edges before the center has a chance to crisp up. Conversely, a lower temperature takes an excessively long time to achieve the desired crispness, testing your patience and potentially drying out the apples too much. Preheating is vital as it ensures consistent heat from the moment the apples enter the basket, leading to more uniform cooking and a better overall texture.
3. Seasoning and Arranging in the Air Fryer
As soon as your air fryer reaches its preheated temperature, it’s time to add a touch of flavor. Gently dust your sliced apples with a generous sprinkle of ground cinnamon. This classic pairing with apples is simply unbeatable, adding warmth and sweetness without any added sugar. For those feeling adventurous, consider experimenting with a pinch of nutmeg, a dash of apple pie spice, or even a tiny amount of brown sugar for extra caramelization.
Next, carefully arrange the seasoned apple slices in the air fryer basket. The golden rule here is to avoid overcrowding. Try your best to keep them in a single layer, with minimal or no overlap. This allows the hot air to circulate freely around each slice, ensuring maximum crispness. Depending on the size of your air fryer and apple slices, you might only be able to fit a small batch at a time—I typically manage around 9 slices. While this means working in batches, the cooking process itself is quite fast, so you can still transform a fair number of apples into chips in a relatively short amount of time.

4. Air Frying to Crispy Perfection
Cook the apples for a total of 10 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of crispness. It’s important to actively manage the cooking process for the best results. I recommend pausing the air fryer 2-3 times throughout the 10-minute cycle to flip the slices and gently press them down. Using mini tongs makes this task incredibly easy and safe. Flipping ensures both sides get equal exposure to the hot air, promoting even crisping.
Keep a close eye on the apples, especially towards the end of the cooking time, as they can go from perfectly crisp to slightly burnt very quickly. If you notice certain apple chips browning or crisping faster than others, either remove them early or rotate their position in the basket to a cooler spot in the middle. When I remove my apple chips at the 10-minute mark, they are often still slightly pliable. This is perfectly normal! They will continue to crisp up considerably as they cool down to room temperature on a plate or serving dish. This residual crisping is part of the magic.
Once a batch is done, remove the apples to a plate and repeat the process with any remaining slices until all your apples have been transformed into delicious, healthy chips. Then, all that’s left to do is to eat and enjoy your freshly made, homemade air fryer apple chips!

Choosing the Best Apples for Your Chips
The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility: you can use virtually any apple variety you enjoy or happen to find on sale. However, certain types yield particularly outstanding results for apple chips. I personally favor apples with a slightly tart profile, such as Pink Lady apples. Their balanced sweetness and tartness, along with a firm texture, make them ideal for holding their shape and developing a delicious flavor when air-fried. Gala apples are another excellent choice, frequently available and often on sale. They offer a good balance of sweetness and firmness, crisping up beautifully.
Other great options include Honeycrisp for a sweet and crisp chip, Fuji for its juicy sweetness, or Granny Smith if you prefer a notably tart chip that truly pops with flavor. Ultimately, the “best” apple is the one you love most, as its natural flavor will concentrate and intensify during the air frying process. Experimentation is key to finding your perfect apple chip!
Storing Your Air Fryer Apple Chips for Lasting Freshness
While I can’t offer extensive advice on the long-term storage of these chips—because in my household, they are typically devoured within minutes of coming out of the air fryer!—I have successfully kept a batch for a few days, and they remained delicious. It’s important to note that they might lose a tiny bit of their initial crispness over time, but they will still make for a fantastic, chewy, and flavorful snack.
To maximize their shelf life and maintain as much crispness as possible, store your cooled air fryer apple chips in an airtight container or a plastic zip-top bag at room temperature. Avoid refrigerating them, as the moisture can quickly turn them soft. Stored correctly, they should last for up to one week. If you notice them becoming softer than you prefer, a quick minute or two back in the air fryer (at a slightly lower temperature like 250°F / 120°C) can often revive some of their crisp texture. Enjoy these delightful homemade treats as a quick grab-and-go snack, a healthy dessert alternative, or even as a crunchy topping for yogurt or oatmeal.

Description
Love store-bought cinnamon apple chips? Save money with these super easy air fryer apple chips! They’re such a great snack with only 2 ingredients!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 apple*
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 325 F (160°C). Using a mandoline, slice the apple into 1/8″ thick slices. You do not have to remove the core unless you want to, but do remove the seeds! If you don’t have a mandoline or a food processor that can evenly slice the apples, use a sharp paring knife to carefully slice the apple. Ensure slices are as uniform as possible for even cooking.
- Once preheated, place the apples in the air fryer basket, ensuring that there is minimal overlap of the slices. Sprinkle the slices evenly with the cinnamon, and close the air fryer basket. Cook the apple slices for 10 minutes in total. During this time, pause the cooking process roughly every 3 minutes to flip the apple slices over, gently pressing them down to ensure maximum contact with the hot air. If you notice some slices getting crispy too quickly, change their position in the basket to the middle for more even cooking. Stop cooking the apple slices when they’re sufficiently crispy for your preference. Remember they will crisp up more as they cool.
- Remove the slices to a plate or serving bowl and allow to cool completely before enjoying (or enjoy them while still warm for a slightly softer texture).
Leftover apple chips will keep at room temperature in an airtight container or plastic zip-top bag for up to 1 week. They will get softer over time, but can often be re-crisped with a quick minute or two in the air fryer.
Notes
*As per the post, you can use any type of apple you want (or multiply this recipe by the number of apples you want to use). I have best luck with firm, slightly tart varieties like Gala or Pink Lady apples!
